Kellex Corporation has purchased the 198,000 square-foot furniture manufacturing factory at 410 Hogan Street in Morganton, bringing its total manufacturing capacity to over 655,000 square feet on over 70 acres of land in North Carolina and Mississippi. Kellex serves the hospitality and upscale time share industries and a growing number of senior living facilities across America from its factories in Valdese, NC, Tupelo, MS and now, Morganton, NC.
The Hogan Street factory in Morganton will be operational this summer and will employ15-20 furniture artisans initially, eventually growing to 35-50 associates within the coming year. Kellex will begin interviewing local furniture professionals in May, with an emphasis on experience in case goods, CNC machining, engineering, assembly, finishing and exposed woodworking upholstery.
Founded in 1994, Kellex has grown from three founding partners, with operations starting in a room over a garage in Ohio. Now a leading National contract furniture supplier, Kellex operates three sawmill and frame factories, two upholstery plants, a foam cushion fabrication plant and now, a wood products factory in Morganton.
US Representative Mark Meadows recently visited Kellex's Valdese plant, including a stop in the upholstery section.
The first of these factories, in Valdese, was purchased in the depth of the recession in 2008, starting with 23 associates and eventually growing today to over 300 associates company-wide. Kellex adds these manufacturing facilities to its sales office in Hickory, customer service center in Ohio and sales/service offices in Georgia and Michigan. Kellex is also closely aligned with Chervan in Roanoke, VA, a leading US manufacturer of wood seating for the hospitality, healthcare and senior living industries.
The new facility in Morganton will enable Kellex to better serve its customers with new product offerings through its network of 30 sales representatives covering every state in the Union. Announcing the new Kellex factory and reflecting on the past 23 successful years of making furniture in the US.
Kellex President Chris Rice said, "Over 20 years ago, when Kellex Seating started humbly above a garage in Ohio, we made the commitment to put US manufacturing first. We vowed to provide our customers with the quality and service that are the benchmarks of 'Made in America.' We had two goals: become the best furniture manufacturing partner to our customers and provide employment opportunities to families and communities devastated by factory closings resulting from outsourcing to foreign countries. We developed a simple message to stay focused on our commitment - MAKE IT HERE, MAKE IT HAPPEN."
Rice continued, "We MAKE our products HERE in the US and support the regional economy by partnering with local suppliers. In many cases, we own and manage our most critical manufacturing components. This includes our sawmill, frame operations and foam fabrication, ensuring we can deliver our pledge to MAKE IT HAPPEN for our customers, who enable us to stand by our commitment of providing employment opportunities to families and supporting the local and national economy."
